recognizing the opportunities.
i have to admit, i didn't think it would be a very good movie... but, i stand corrected. evan almighty was a really good movie. it was a little corny at times, but the underlying message that it delivered was pretty awesome.
God, played by Morgan Freeman, said something that really opened my eyes... it's funny 'cuz my friend tina said the same thing to me last week... i don't know if she watched the movie beforehand, but it tripped me out nonetheless! anyways, he said... "it's an opportunity. you ask for patience, and God will give you an 'opportunity' to exercise it." basically, the whole "ask and you shall receive" thing is absolutely true (not that i ever doubted it)... but, it's all about "recognizing the opportunity". lemme hit ya with an example...
last week, i volunteered for my church's vbs (vacation bible school). it was my first time to serve at vbs, but not my first time workin' with a big group of kids. i thought it would be a breeze, monday morning, before i checked in with Jenny Platt, i was sitting in my car and shot out a little prayer to Jesus asking Him for patience and a bunch of other stuff and thanking Him for the opportunity to serve Him, etc... well... He definitely answered my prayers. i think i got the rowdiest, most unfocused, adhd, crazy kids ever (not in a bad way though... haha). i was like, "OOOMMMMGGGG!" well... it was an OPPORTUNITY to exercise my patience... and booooooyyyyy, was it tested. but, i'm proud of myself - although i was extremely exhaused after only 3 hours of being with these kids, i learned a lot from it and got to hang out with some pretty awesome kids (aside from the whole rowdy, adhd, crazy characteristics they have).
anyways - long story short. watch the movie. it's pretty good. lots of underlying messages about God...
